MOA 6ppc or 6mm bench rest for hunting?
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:45:29 PM »
I'm curious about either of these calibers for hunting coyotes and possibly whitetails out to 100yds?  I'm not familiar with either caliber but have a line on a MOA handgun and I don't remember which of these calibers it was in, but the price was really good.  I'm not going to be interested in it if I can't shoot a deer though, I can handload if that helps too.

Why not?  If the gun is MOA and you can placce the bullets where they need to go you should be able to take both coyote and whitetail.  Coyote are not a problem but with the whitetail, if they are large, bullet placement is most important.  Mikey.

Your decision will need to be based upon the twist rate of the barrel.  Most 6 PPCs and 6 BRs use a slow 1:14" twist, which is marginal for bullets over 75 grains.  Personally I prefer 6mm bullets of at least 85 grains and controlled expansion for game like deer.

For coyotes, no problem with 55-75 grain bullets.  Plenty of power and certainly enough accuracy.  Good luck with your choice.
