Holster "Made by Dan Wesson"
« on: September 08, 2008, 07:56:05 AM »
I was talking to Gary D/W last night about a holster that I acquired for my D.W 715-2, 4" V.H. that I didn't know existed.
Gary thought it would be nice if I could start this thread and include some pictures.

I have owned a number of Dan Wesson pistols since they started making the 715-2 model and I used my 715-2's, Model 40, .357 Super Mag. and various other models and calibers when I was shooting steel with IHMSA back in the 80's and I have never seen one of these or knew they were ever made.

I happened on this one by accident and I'm glad I did.

It is new and looks like my pistol was the only one that has ever been in it, the fit is perfect with the 4" V.H. bbl.

I left the pics a little dark to be able to read the markings.

I would appreciate any feedback on the history of these holsters if anyone has any or has ever heard of their existence.

If I need to post more pics let me know, I want to share this info with all the forum members.

Regards,
Ed.

I have one as well, it's made for a large frame with 8" barrel and fits my VR8 41 mag. Interestingly, the design allows the sheath to pivot relative to the belt fitting so that one can draw without dislocating a shoulder. Tackleberry would have loved it!

No, I picked it up off fleabay, even they understand a holster is fairly harmless. I speculate that they were part of second generation DW. A lot of badge engineered stuff was sold under the DW mark in the early '90s. I have a 22lr rifle that is an Armscor? which was sold as a Dan Wesson Coyote. The only DW part is the stamp on the barrel and a revolver grip medallion inleted into the bottom of the fore end.
I sort of think that they got over extended with the badged stuff and that may have been why the business went out of family??
The holsters were likely made in a job lot by one of the major holster makers. The pancake above looks a bit like a Bianchi; but I've never seen one for the large frame like I bought.

I bought this one under the understanding that it was for a large frame D.W.
I wanted it for my stainless .41 Magnum D.W.

When it arrived it was for the small frame and it fits my 4" V.H. 715-2 perfectly.

Oh well, Win some, loose some.
