Buying first Handi-rifle
« on: September 01, 2008, 07:35:07 AM »
Hey guys, just discovered Handi-rifles and this web site! I've really enjoyed reading your comments on these rifles ,so much so that I've decided  to order one this week!I have a few basic questions though; Can the CR 45 -LC be fitted for additional barrels , such as a .22 Hornet ? Ideally I would like a .22 hornet with a straight grip wooden stock( prefer walnut) but I don't think it's available. Could I purchase such a stock seperately for the SyntheticRifle currently offered in .22 Hornet ? How about the stock set from a CR 45 , could it be purchased and installed on the SyntheticRifle? Also the rimfire Sportster's , are wood stocks available for them ?            Also from some of the postings there seems to be concern about the overall quality of NEF products and service since Remington took over.My question is ,would I still be buying a quality product new or should I look for a older used rifle ? Thanks for your time and I really appreciate any info from you guys.

That's a bunch of questions all rolled together...  I'll attempt an answer..

Yes.
No its not currently available.
Yes. (At least before Rem took over you could. If you still can remains to be seen.)
Again, Yes, at least you "ustacould".
Same stocks fit SB1/SB2 only exception would be the 10GA receivers.
Only time will tell.
I would guess about everything available now is from Gardener stock, nothing new yet. (Just a guess though)
Personally, I would look for an older rifle, You know Old/New store stock.

In the order you asked.. ::) ;D ;)

Yes you can have a .22 Hornet barrel fitted. They both use the SB2 frame.

Could I purchase such a stock seperately for the SyntheticRifle currently offered in .22 Hornet ? How about the stock set from a CR 45 , could it be purchased and installed on the SyntheticRifle? Also the rimfire Sportster's , are wood stocks available for them ?

You can order the walnut stocks (when available) and switch them with the synthetic. The stocks and forearms are interchangeable. (same with the rimfires also).

Also from some of the postings there seems to be concern about the overall quality of NEF products and service since Remington took over.My question is ,would I still be buying a quality product new or should I look for a older used rifle ?

There are some naysayers on here that seem to think the world has come to an end with Remington. I don't think you need to worry, Handi rifles are well built, rugged firearms that will serve you well. If you do decide to look for a used one, make sure to look here on the H&R classified section.

I hope this helps you out.

Welcome aboard, you came to the right place!!

I was under the impression that the 22 Hornet was dropped from the line up.

The Hornet was still on the accessory barrel list the last time I checked, the site won't load for me right now, so I can't look, but they've discontinued many rifles, but still offered the barrels, the 357 mag and 450 Marlin for a couple examples.
