.303 British Rechamber
« on: August 31, 2008, 05:03:17 PM »
Do any of the Handi Rifle barrels have a bore dia. of .311?

I was thinking of having my 7.62x39 rechambered for either the 7.62x54 or the .303 British.

I don't have any experience with the .303 but I have two Mosins and like the 7.62x54 round.

Anyone out there have any recommendations??

Take a look at the 30-40.  Very close to the .303 British and it's a .308 bore.

Same here. I already reload for my enfield it would be nothing to have one in a Handi. Talk about a perfect walking rifle a little over kill for small critters but perfect for pigs on up.

I have been in agreement with Swamp man for some time about rimmed calibers being perfect for the Handi as it was originally designed.

The 303 hand-loaded in the handi would do everything the 30-30, 308 and 90% of what the 30-06 could do, with less hassle and shenanigans!!

 Go build one Swamp!!

Are you a reloader?  No doubt you'd want to use the correct bullets for your Mosins - 0.308 vs .312 caliber.

Suggestion?  Before you embark on your project, get your Mosins 'slugged.'  If they're the same bore as the 7.62X39 then proceed.  Otherwise don't ruin the 7.62X39 barrel if it won't match your Mosin rifles, and keep it as is or sell it.
