Honda service question
« on: June 06, 2008, 09:05:22 AM »
One of my daughters and her husband bought a new Honda Rancher for me to use on their farm.  ;D
They bought in Ark. where they live and I live in southern OK.  They brought it to me yesterday and we have ridden about 25 miles.  I thought it rode kind of rough, then today noticed the rear shock is broken.   :-[  The rod came out of the body of the shock and the spring was jambed on part of the shock body and part of the spring was pushing up on the battery box.  I don't think this happened yesterday or today.

Obviously, I will have to take it to a dealer here in southern OK or just across the river in TX.
My main question is: Are Honda dealers generally agreeable with warranty work on something not bought from them?

Just wanting to know what to look forward to when I take it in.

thanks

Handi take along a bill of sale or some other proof of purchase (date) and any other paperwork you have and you'll get along fine.  If you run into a dealer that doesn't want to cooperate you'll know that is not the dealer you want to do business with.  Move on to the next.  ATV dealers are just like everything else.  Some are great and some are just plain ---holes.  Find a good one, you'll need him again, unless you plan to leave the thing in the shed.

Thanks Old Syko,
Kinda what I thought, just wanted to get a little input.
In another life I was a service mgr. at a GM dealership.  We pretty well worked on every vehical, but some dealers really gave people a hard time if they didn't buy from them.

I do have the bill of sale and the title so shouldn't be a problem.

You shouldnt need the bill of sale. All they need to do is run the vin # and they can pull up when the warranty will expire. The way we work it is if its under warranty its gets fixed. If its our customer on a new unit it gets fixed asap even if we have to disable a new unit. If its not our customer it gets put in the service stack and it goes in order. Since every dealership is different its hard to say how you will get treated, but I would find one that wont give you a hard time about warranty work.

I called the nearest dealer, about 25 miles away, it is not a large one, but they were prompt to answer the phone and courteous. They will probably have to order what is needed. Yes the vin number is all they need.  He wanted to see the unit to make sure they checked everything out and got all that was needed.

I had called a larger dealer, but after being on hold for four minutes.....

It depends on the dealer.  One Honda dealer north of me wanted 1200.00 more for my Rancher.  So I checked the dealer S. of me (wholesaler and a 1 1/2 hour drive) who said it would be 3400.00 ... Checked w/ the dealer about an hour west of me and he said he'd do 3500.00 and throw in a helmet and a couple of hats.  Done deal.  I've had warranty work done at the N. location w/ no problem.  The thing about warranty work for dealerships is that you always get paid.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."
