7MM Sighting In Problem
« on: September 16, 2008, 02:17:03 AM »
I purchased a 7mm encore barrel and went to sight it in this past weekend.  I am using the Talley one piece scope mounts and a good brand scope.  For some reason, everytime I would shoot, it would be way off of my prior shot.  I had a steady rest and was making good shots.  I am wondering if there is too much recoil for the one piece base and that is causing my problem.  Any other suggestions???

Is it a 7mm rem. mag barrel or 7mm-08? My 7mm mag. won't shoot 150 grains, I switched to 175 grain and it tightened right up. What weight of bullet are you using?

What is the cartridge?  Who's ammo, factory or reloads.

Difficult to say, could be the ammo, could be the scope or both.

I was using Winchester Super X 150 grain loads.   It is the 7mm Rem Mag barrel.

Have the muzzle checked. It may need the crown redone. It happened to me on a new contender barrel that I purchased years ago. The first time I shot it I couldn't keep it the paper at 25 yards. After the crown was cleaned up it was great.

TC RECOMMENDS 150GR FEDERAL POWER SHOK AMMO.

BUT I WOULD TRY AT LEAST 3-4 DIFFERENT BRANDS/WEIGHTS.

TALLEY ONE PIECE MOUNTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE 7MM MAG WITHOUT PROBLEM.

I HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A 7MM MAG TC BARREL AND HAD TO RETURN IT TO TC (WHICH THEY REPLACED WITH A SHOOTER).
