Figuring sight height
« on: September 06, 2008, 01:20:43 PM »
There have been several posts asking how much to raise or lower a front sight to move the point of impact a given amount at the target.

Re-reading some articles in the Feb 2006 American Rifleman I came across mention of an old formula I had forgotten about which may be of some help.

Sight height change can be figured by:

Sight radius in inches divided by the range in inches times the error at the target in inches.

Simple, and over the years has proven to work for me.

Shucks, I thought I had invented that one, I've been using it since I was a teen, and that's been a while. ;D
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

Know what you mean Coyote, first time I heard that method was sometime in the mid 50's when I first started shooting competitively.  Been so long since I used it I had really forgotten the method.

Old age I guess.
