Hornady = Good
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:06:28 AM »
I broke my 7mm ultra mag die.  That is what I told hornady.

I didn't have the spindle tight enough, and when pulling through the expander, it pulled the spindle and expander down, which I didnt noticed.  So when I inserted the next case, it hit the bottom of the expander, and bent the crap out of the spindle.

Called hornady today, expecting to buy a new one, and the lady just asked me exactly what broke, and said she would have the parts out to me right away, no charge.

That is a good company right there, I even tell them I want to buy a new one, and they send me one free.

I bent the spindle on mine on the 3rd case by grabbing a lake city case with crimped primer :'(. Called hornady and explained what I did and needed to buy the parts. She was very nice, and said she would put it in the mail right then, and no charge!! Two days later I received it in mail. :)
So I sent hornady an email thanking them for the great service and that I would be buying more of their dies.I really like the inline seating die they have.

Once upon a time RCBS did stuff like that too but apparently the new owners don't see things the same as the old owners. The last couple of times I've had to call them for customer service I got none. I have to wonder if service is a thing of the past there it sure seems so from my experience.

Huh... when I broke one of my RCBS dies, and emailed them about it, admitting fault, they simply asked me for my address, and sent me out a replacement part.  That was definitely several months ago.  Or maybe I just got lucky?  ???

I've had to call RCBS for assistance twice within the last six months or so.  Their response was excellent and demonstrated a commitment to customer satisfaction.

I'm glad you're still getting service from RCBS I'm sure not. I'll think long and hard before spending anymore money on RCBS products.

Can't blame you Graybeard.  After all, there comes a time when it's all about the customer experience you're having and not what others are reporting.  I currently have one going through a couple of customer protection agencies - an electronics repair store that performed an unauthorized repair, and was insisting that they would not negotiate, but would rather "undo" the repair, even though it risked further damage to the item, and they had no actual parts they installed.  Essentially, they tried to charge me $200 for a soldering job.

Thankfully, I've had no such experience with my firearms and reloading equipment!

I admit not being  pleased with those smooth spindles. I had a Hornady Die that simply would not keep the spindle in place while pulling the expander out regardless how well the inside of the neck was lubed. Even using some fine sandpaper to rough up the spindle was useless. Being in Canada we can't just stick merchandise in a box and send it to a US manufacturer without running into grief with red- tape from Customs. So I spot welded the spindle in place on that gland that is supposed to keep the spindle in place. BTW my Lee Dies, using he same method hasn't given me any problems.

The one and only set of Hornady dies I have I don't care for and if they were a chambering I used more often I would have long since sold them off. The decapping expander rod won't stayin place no matter what and they just are not finished inside like my Reddings or RCBS. Great people but I don't like the dies.
In 37 years of doing biz with RCBS they have bailed me out countless number of times, for free, no questions asked, no fault, way beyond what I expected and never once has there been a conflict. I am still waiting for a reason to not do biz with them.

RCBS, Hornady, Lee and Redding, no questions asked, free replacements 100% money free.

I have received die parts, trimmer parts, powder measure parts, ect.  Most caused by me, some wear and tear.

I bought one set of Hornady dies, New Frontier or New dimension, whatever in the red box.

they had the pressure relief hole drilled so that the adjuster ring was on top of it when adjusted properly, blocking the pressure relief.  I wrote them a letter about and never recieved a response back.

I got my parts a couple of days ago.  Only took them a week to get me replacement parts.  Already loaded up some good ammo with them.  Can't complain a bit.

I called Hornady because I got all of my new equipment delivered only to find out that I needed a die wrench that didn't come with the press. I called to order one and they shipped it out free of charge and said they would look at adding it or noting it was not included. GREAT customer service. I just started and there will definitely be a continuity on my bench with Hornady products.
