Repiar and new barrel info
« on: September 09, 2008, 02:37:36 PM »
I sent away my Hardi 45-70 for warranty repair on July 16, 2008. I also ordered a new barrel - 204 bull fluted. Both came in today. They look fine. They sent the scope mount rail , but not the offset hammer spur. Just to let everyone know.

I do need a hammer spur because of the scope for the .204. The new barrel program web page posts under the barrels  "(Includes scope mount rail and offset hammer spur.)" .

The 45-70 would open every few shots. I tried all the suggested fixes posted here before I called it in. The repair document noted  "re-fit barrel. fit alignment off".

Does anyone have a reduced recoil load for the 45-70 using a .458 dia. 300 grn JHP ? Something less than 1500 fps.

Welcome aboard ;D I do not know for sure how it works now, but back when I have sent mine in, you could buy just the rail or the rail and spur. So if you asked for a rail, they would have just sent you the rail. Since the take over that may not be true any more. Do you know if they have the spur listed separately? When you ordered the barrel did you request a rail or just got sent along with the 204 barrel?

BTW do you need a spur? If I dig around I probably have one, if you need one.

"I sent away my Hardi 45-70 for warranty repair" If your 45-70 was so hardi why did you have to send it in? Sorry, I could not resist  ::)

I called Remington Arms at 800-243-9700 to report that I didn't receive the offset hammer spur with the new barrel. 3min connect time. They agreed to send one out - no problems. Maybe they are working out the transition from H&R?

I got my barrel installed by the old shop right before they moved.  Mine also came back without the hammer extension.  A quick call and it was in the mail the next week.

But it did come back with a new lock (that goes inside the barrel somehow?) and a new set of inserts for the buffalo classic front sight. plus a new manual.

For a low recoil 45/70 I've been loading the Remington 300 JHP over 15 grains of Unique at about 1350 fps. and took a very nice buck with that load last season. He stumbled maybe 50 feet down a steep hillside and was dead when I got to him.

I like the 300 gr. HP over 40 grains of Reloader7.Very mild and accurate load.

Sent my BC receiver in for a .38-55 barrel on August 22.  Due to getting activated for Hurricane Gustav, I wasn't able to call the Ilion to find out the status til this past Monday (Sept 8).  They told me that the .38-55 barrel was no longer available, so I told them to put a 7mm-08 barrel on it (needed something for my daughter to shoot during muzzleloader season (BC is legal in Louisiana)).  Called back today (Sept 11) expecting to hear that it was still waiting to get on a bench and they told me the barrel had already been fitted and the rifle was being test fired.  They said they expected it to be shipped back to me within a week.  Sounds like they've gotten their stuff together (some of stories were making me extremely worried, lol).

Now if they can follow thru with their intent.  ??? Thanks for the news on the 38-55 accessory barrel, they still list it, but we we're hoping it would continued to be available, doesn't sound like it.  :-\

I got a new .17 HMR last week and almost threw the hammer spur away.  I called them and told them I didn't get it in the package.  They told me to look on the box flap and it was taped right thiere.  I would never have fouind it.  I thought it would be with the lock and other goodies.
