2008 Traditional Harvests
« on: October 09, 2008, 04:42:13 PM »
Has anyone taken any game yet with your traditional equipment?
Please share your stories if you have, as I'm sure others would like to read about it, I know I would.

Today when I got home from work I changed into my camo grabbed my gear and headed to one of my stands. I got settled into my stand at 4:30 and at 6:15 I had a deer come in at about 18 yards. The deer was very slightly quartering away and I had total focus on a tiny spot just behind it's shoulder. I never took my eye off the spot as the 55# Martin Hatfield came to full draw. When I released the string I saw the Easton 2117 arrow tipped with a 190 grain Grizzly El Grande find it's mark. The deer ran about 60 yards and I saw it go down, no tracking! The arrow entered low and tight behind the shoulder and exited in the center of the off side shoulder. The deer turned out to be a button buck, very good eating and they are all trophies to me when taken with traditional archery tackle.
By 8:30 the meat was wrapped and in the freezer. It was a great afternoon!

Congratulations! I agree, any deer taken with a recurve is a trophy. ;) Sounds like you're gonna have some good tender venison this year.

I haven't found the time to go yet, but hope to next week.
