After market triggers
« on: August 31, 2008, 07:30:57 AM »
I got a great deal on a Interarms Mk X rifle in 7mag.  After a good inspection I determined this is a project gun.  The stock needs modified, the bluing touched up and the triggers replaced.  I have experience with Timney triggers but no others and have had good results.  I probible sell this rifle when I'm done as I don't have much need for a 7 mag. but want to make this rifle as attractive to a hunter as possible.  What triggers have you used?  Will a more expensive add enough value to the gun to offset the price of the trigger?

Usually the MkX triggers are pretty good. They can be slicked up a bit but work well enough. The timneys are great triggers for the price. Canjar and others can go lighter and set triggers look neat but the is almost no likelyhood the cost would be made up in a future sale. The 7mmRemington mag is a great round that approxmates the recoil of a 30-06 but delivers a flatter trajectory. I use a Ruger old model 77 and a handload featuring a 160 grain Nosler Partition and it does wonders on whitetail ans even the occasional coyote..

Don't know anything about a trigger except a Jewell.  I have one and it is great.

I use timneys in everything.  I've installed about 8 or 10 and will be installing at least 3 more in the next couple of months.  My mauser custom has one...terrific.

+1 for the Timney trigger.  My Mark X has worn one for the last 30 years, and I have installed them on half a dozen other rifles.  No complaints.

I have a Bold trigger in my project mauser. Very similar to a Timney. Also came with the side safety. I still think the Timney is a better trigger, the adjustments seem a little more precise. But for a hunting rifle the Bold has held up pretty good.

I went with the Timney again.  The agent at Brownells said the same thing as Bull. I had to mofify the reciever and stock a little but it works fine.  No take up, creep  or over travel and a #3 pull.  Rifle shot 1/2" at 75 yards.
