This is my 60 year old $50 beater.
'Beater' conjures up images of thrashing around in the undergrowth, trying to flush the tiger, (or the pheasant, if you're not into dangerous game !)
A Remington 511 , 5clip b/a. A bit beat up. Maybe one day I'll give it a good polish up with some fine steel wool, and sand and oil the stock up good. Make it look 'purty'.
It shoots good too.
Magazine feeds fine. The barrel is not free floating. It has a bit of a pressure point up front. I've left it that way.
I had to tighten the bolt handle with a good hammer blow from a punch, recently, as it was wobbly.
The trigger weight of pull is around a ton, but you just have to grit your teeth and follow through.
The iron sights are pretty rudimentary, and hard work for tired old eyes, but they do work.
Here's a pic of the 'old girl',
and a target that I shot with CCI Standard, 5 shots at 25mtrs while setting the sights with a six o'clock hold on the bottom of the bold red 8 ring.
cheers
