ENCORE 284 Win picture

Here is my Encore 284 Win T/C Custom Shop heavy bbl with a Leupold 2.5x-8 EER scope.

I haven't had time to wring it out at the gun range yet, since I've been very busy with work and also getting ready for a western Oklahoma antelope hunt next week.

Will post a range report later.

Nice looking Handgun there Rog,, but then I am a sucker for Stainless-Steel and Rubber Furnature.

I used a 15" .284 Encore last season to take a smallish 4x4 Whitetail Buck on opening morning. I used a 140gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip which left the muzzle at 2665 FPS pushed by H-4831. One shot through the ribs was all it took. At the shot the Buck ran about 50 yards and piled up and was done.

That's good to know.

I hope that my 284 will have as much velocity.  It's throated long and N140BT's seated at 3.213" OAL still are just barely off the lands.  I've only fired two rounds out of it so far and using a book max charge of H4831sc (Nosler manual) it's only clocked 2504 fps avg for the two rounds.  I was hoping for more.  Perhaps as the barrel get broken in, the velocity will increase.

I've got additional loads ready to shoot, just gotta get to the range.

This is the second .284 Handgun my buddy has had. The first was a HS Precision Pro 2000 Handgun in .284. We shot up over 300 rounds trying to find the perfect load for that HS and finally gave up. That barrel was much slower than this Encore, and this Encore shoots better groups too.

The load we ended up with is one that I had provided to me by XPHunter. Ernie said it was a super accurate load in his .284 XP, and he had taken a lot of critters with it. The best group I have shot with this load in the above mentioned Encore measured .451" center to center for 3 shots at 100 yards from the bench.



This wears a Factory T/C Walnut Grip. The Forend is a Factory T/C Rifle Forend that Roger's Gunsmithing about 12 miles from my house shortened and pillar bedded. I do not care for the Walnut on a Hunting Gun as with gloves when it is cold I think the Walnut is slippery.
