Acurate Arms 2520, best used for?
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:47:57 AM »
I just bought an 8# container of it for $50.  Seems like a good medium burner something like Reloder 15 or IMR 4320. It will certainly do some good in my Whelen, how about other cartridges.

I have used it in .22-250 with pretty good results. That was a while back, I can't fing the data log with the group sizes and velocities.

It's the absolute best powder ever for the .358 JDJ so should do well with the .358 Winchester and the Whelen I'd think. I love it in .223 Remington also. It's the best I've found for 120 grain bullets in the 7-30 Waters. I usually give it a try for anything that the burning rate is proper for. It's a good powder and I like it.

Seems pretty versatile. I am taking a friends 45-70 and my 35 Whelen to the range today, the Whelen loaded with 200 grain Hornady Spire points and 200 grain Remington RN on top of 55.0 grains of AA 2520 for a mild deer load. I want to save the 250 grain Speers for hog hunting and oddly I am going to have to do some action work to get the 250 grain Hornady RN's to feed though the 200 gr. Remington RN's feed just fine.

Given the price you paid for the keg of powder I would worry that it is too hot. Mid capacity cartridges and smaller do well with it.

I use 2520 in my 358 JDJ 14" pistol barrel.  I can get consistent groups between 1/2" to 3/4" 3 shot groups with that powder and a nosler partition bullet.  It's great!

According to the techs at Accurate 2520, is closest to Varget in Burn rate. obviously get specific load data, but that should give you an idea what it works well in. Give the guys at Western Powder a call they are great.

You got a real bargin on that AA2520 powder! I've used it for .250 Savage, 30/30, .300 Savage, .308., .35 Rem, .35 Whelen, and 8X57JR cartridges with good success. It meters like "quick silver", is clean burning, and delivers good velocities relative to powder charge.

I loaded some under 200 grain bullets in my 35 Whelen. As I worked up I noticed that the muzzle blast/flash got less. Starting loads were really flashy and top load was pretty reasonable.

Great powder for the 35 Remington under 220 Speer flat points.  Plan on trying it in my 350 Magnum one of these days.

Killer deal on powder - widely useful powder - close to 4064 - I like it for cartridges of 35 plus grains.

This is good info. I can get my hands on quite a bit of Accurate Arms powder for a really cheap price. I may have to do it. I wondered if it was any good. Its a little old but its still sealed and always been kept in a dry area.
