Primer pocket reamers??
« on: September 14, 2008, 04:45:42 PM »
I have a bunch of 223 brass that was purchased from bulk .223 bullet buys at walmart.  I was going to start reloading it and had trouble getting the primers into the pockets.  I noticed the brass was lake city and stamped with 07 on it.  I knew then that the brass was the same they use for their military contract and had the crimped primer.  What is the best bang for the buck for fixing these primer pockets?  I'd hate to waste so many good cases.  If you could explain what is needed to do to open up the pocket I'd appreciate that as well.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob

The easy way is to take your chamfer tool that you use on the case mouth and do the same on the primer pocket , it only takes about 1 turn to clean it up , the other way is to get a primer pocket swedger from RCBS or one of the other companies that make them , ( cost more )

I have done a bunch with the little tool and it does work well .

I have thought about getting a swedging die for military cases. I do like Stimpy does, I use my RCBS hand tool or my RCBS Case prepping station to knock off the rim from the primer pocket.

I use a Dillon Super Swage 600.It is the best item for the job (IMHO).I had a RCBS and I gave it away.Always had trouble with the case getting stuck. The Dillon cast more, but to me it was worth every penny ;D.........Rick

I borrowed a friend's swagger once to do a few hundred cases.  Ended up having to do them again in the manner Stimpy suggested.   ::)

You can even use a pocket knife. As Stimpy says, it just takes a turn or so.
