New Taurus PT 1911 grips
« on: August 04, 2008, 10:01:36 AM »
Have you seen the new wooden grips for the PT-1911?  The black plastic grips that came on my pistol are very functional but butt-ugly.  I bought some Hogue cocobolo grips and dressed it up nicely.  In a gun shop the other day I saw a new PT 1911 with the best looking wooden grips I've seen in a long time.  They were part checkered and part stippled and had the Taurus bull head logo in the center. It looked like it was laser-engraved.

I wrote to Taurus and asked about getting a set, and about a week later actually got a phone call from them.  The grips will be available for retrofit for about $60 a pair.  The customer service guy (Mike) said to call back around mid-August and see if they're in.  Now my dilemma: get these great-looking grips for 60 bucks, or save another 40 and get a set of those great grips from Esmeralda...

I didn't like the black rubber grips on my PT1911 either. Couldn't bring myself to spend half the price of the gun on grips-------------------so, I bought a set of "Ajax" grips made from genuine fake ivory  ;) and dressed her up a bit. Looks pretty good.(About $30-$40 as best I recall)

I just bought a Taurus 1911 AL and like you I did not like the factory black grips. I had a pair of pachmayer rubber grips in a bromn color laying around they look good and feel great on the pistol.

I e-bay scored a super nice set of maple burl grips for $10 from gungripguys.com

I guess no one liked maple cause the other woods were bid up to$40
