Hello all.  I do not own a T/C Handgun, but am very interested in obtaining one.  Getting started, I am wanting an Encore frame with a scoped .22LR barrel for small game (mainly squirrel) hunting.  Any recommendations for barrel specs?  I would think a 12" bbl would be adequate.

I see that T/C does not offer RF barrels for the Encore, but several custom shops do.   The Encore hammer does not appear to have the RF 'option' as does the Contender, so I am assuming this would also require customization?

I know the Contender G2 would probably be a more reasonable option given the above, but I'm leaning towards the Encore to have the flexibility of using it in some of the stocked rifle configurations as well in the future - like the 209x50 inline.  Is it feasible re-configure between handgun and long-gun (easily)?

I am exploring my options here.  Any and all help / comments would be greatly appreciated.

virgin valley custom guns sells a 22lr conversion for the encore. i think it's about $35. you just change the part the hammer strikes with a single allen head screw. don't know if anyone else sells it for sure. [www.virginvalleyguns.com]
i would think a 12" barrel would be about right. as far a reconfiguring, it's just a matter of removing forearm, barrel, grips, etc. changing barrels is super easy but i have never used it as a rifle. the grip removes easily with one allen head screw.
as far as a custom barrel, virgin valley runs a shorty barrel sale at times. that would be a great time to pick one up at a reduced price. :grin:  [/url]

Welcome to the world of TC Shooting.  Your going to find this to be an addicting habbit.

You absolutely can get and effectively use a 22LR on an Encore frame.  You will need a Rimfire Conversion Kit which you can buy from Virgin Valley Guns.  It is fairly simple to use requiring only an allen wrench to change out.  However this kit does include a tiny spring which has a tendancy to be launched into outer space when trying to install it.

My personal preference would be to stick with the Contender for 22LR.  No adapter required and you don't have to buy a custom barrel.  I have both a Contender and an Encore frame and each has there time and place. :grin:

Next question: Where to shop?  If I was to decide on a Contender 12" BBL .22LR today, where would I go to buy it in the configuration I want?  Do I buy the frame and barrel option seperately, or do I order the whole thing at once?

What is a reasonable price?

Anyone know of a dealer in western PA that deals heavily with T/C handguns??

well, today you'd be in a bind maybe. they quit makin the contender. you'd have to find one used. check ed's tc's.
hopefully TC will bring out the G2, which is the replacement for the original contender. rumors after 1st of year sometime, don't hold your breath.
i bought my 13" 6mmBR encore frame and barrel from virgin valley during the shorty barrel sale, complete with 2lb trigger job. you can buy together or separate as you wish.
my best price on a factory encore was $450 at a local shop. i gave $550 for the one from vvcg. thats not bad in my opinion for custom barrel and trigger job added on. oh yeah, plus sling studs and hammer extension added. :D

I would not want to wait that long. Get the Contender now.You know that G-2 is going to cost more. Also I dont think the G-2 can do anything better than a Contender can.Another thing is I dont think that I want to get an early G-2,at least till they get the Bugs out. Besides,I have 2 Contender,and 2 Encore frames.What do I need a G-2 for? 8)
