Speed of Exomax

Hello,

A good friend has a two year old Exomax package for sale. I have tried it out. He had two sets of limbsavers, string leeches and cat whiskers on it. I got chronograph speeds of 306 fps with a 390 grain bolt and 312 fps with a 368 grain bolt. The excel string has no twists in it and is between the marks.  I lost the leeches after 10 shots or so...they must have just been installed....couldn't take the strain I guess. With both sets of limbsavers off and only cat whiskers on the string, it shoots 335 fps with the 368 grain bolt.

Just for curiosity, I borrowed a Parker Buckbuster 150# from a friend. I put the 368 grain bolt across the screens at 310 fps. I was pretty impressed by it.


Excalibur says to shoot the bow as out of the box. It did seem a bit smoother at the shot with only one set of limb savers installed. As far as personally noticing any difference in sound, the Parker seemed like its sound production was quicker and done. The Excal seemed a little longer in duration.

To get the most fps outta the Emax, you would need a FFF or Flemish Fast Flyte string.  i shoot a 'Boo' custom string which is Flemish [twist] Excel [matl] w/ served on whiskers and it only costs me 8-9 fps from FFF.  That, a 425 gr arrow,  and an STS is as quiet as it gets for Excals, imo. The diff between FFF and endless loop is 10-15 fps depending on brace height or who you talk to, lol.

Limbsavers cost more fps than they are worth sound wise, imho.

I also shot the BB, it's a nice bow, liked it best of the Parkers.

Thanks for the input. I bought the entire package very cheap. The string is ff endless loop with gray and black strands (28). I have fletched up some GT Laser 2's with brass inserts and 2216's with aluminum. I want to get total weight up to about 450 grains or better with 125 grain tips.  Don't really see a need to put the strain of shooting the lighter arrows on the bow, and 300+ fps will be plenty fast.
