accurizing CZ52
« on: September 30, 2008, 02:45:21 PM »
Just purchased a CZ 52. I put a steel firing pin and wolf 16 # recoil spring.  Now it functions  well but does not group well.  The sights on these are too small for good accuracy in my opinion.  What can be done to improve accuracy?  What gets the most bang for the buck?

clodbuster:  couple of questions for you...  how did it group before?  What size groups are you talking about now?  Is a 16lb recoil spring what is called for in that pistol?

What ammunition were/are you using?  Are you resting the pistol or standing free handed when you shoot?  Is this pistol chambered in the original 7.62x25mm or has it been converted to 9mm?  Mikey.

Mikey  first of all I'm not too bad a pistol shot, and shoot from a bench.  the groups won't stay on 10x13" paper at 25 yds.  I've been using romanian surplus 762x25.  the velocity is very consistent with this stuff coming out around 1600 fps.  the gun has 2 punch dots on the sighting rib and looks to be in very nice condition mechanical and finish.
With the factory spring the slide banged back with extreme force and threw brass 35' away.  recoil is much tamer with the 16 lb spring.

clodbuster:  OK, the Romanian surplus you are using may well be the culprit but your barel may also be shot out.  Romanian surplus amy well be in the submachine gun ammo category, which is the worst thing for your CZ52, or any other handgun in that caliber.

I would suggest two things:  first, get yourself to Ron Reed's website - Ron manufactures and sells 13 different loadings for the 7.62x25mm cartridge and should be able to indicate which would be the most accurate in your pistol (CZ52).  Failing that, you may wish to try Sellier and Bellot ammo as a factory ball ammo replacement for the Romanian stuff.

Ron would also be able to advise you on accurizing tips for the CZ, I believe.  But, I would try his website first.  HTH.  Mikey.
