I am currently using Federal Premiums 165 gr Accubonds.  I was wondering if any of you were hunting with something different that you think performs better on medium sized game.

RF,

If your using these cartridges and they are killing whatever your shooting at, at whatever location on this planet your shooting 'em at, then I don't know if any other ammo qualifies as "better". Dead is dead and if your putting the shot in the boiler room and the "subject game animal" is falling over.....well.....end of story.

Yep, that's the right answer. I can also report that everything I ever shot with my XP and Encore .308's promptly fell over dead, and I use the standard Hornady 150 gr. Spire point.

It's nice when a plan comes together!  ;D

Not a thing wrong with your ammo choice.  However, I handload my own and use that to my advantage.  I use the reloading tables in the back of Lyman's reloading manual that indicate loads specifically for the Encore and Contender.  Usually these are reduced loads, or rather, they are loads that are optimized for the barrel length.  That way I'm not wasting powder that the short pistol barrel can't burn anyway.  Generally speaking, when you see that big fireball coming out of the muzzle, you're wasting powder.  Makes for an impressive display though! ;D

I'm not looking to change my ammo choice.  I was just wondering what some of you others prefer and are using over what I am.  Just a curious question.

I can't help you there. I handload all my  ammo.

Ok, the only "factory ammo" that I've shot through mine is milsurp stuff - 7.62 NATO.  My Paw-in-Law has a M1A that he likes to shoot, and has a few milsurps laying around (165gr. full metal jackets).  They shoot fantastic out of the Encore, but boy do they snort!  Lots of fun!  Throws a big fireball about 2 feet wide and 4 feet out the front.  Groups great though, 3" groups at 100 yards.

The only thing that I can tell you that shoots poorly in my Encore is 180 grain cast lead bullets.  Whether it's the powder combo or the rifling twist, I can't tell you.  Shoots 150 grain cast lead fine with Reloader 7.

As long as you are accomplishing your intended task, I would say don't worry about it, the TC's seem to shoot well with almost anything you shove into them!

Have fun!

Duh! ???  I read back over your original question, and you asked what our preference was!

I preffer to handload 150 grain Remington CorLock (the cheapest JSP's that I can find) with Reloader 7, CCI large rifle primers, and Winchester brass.
