I don't think there would be any interest.  Why would you convert a Mosin that shoots very powerful ammo for about $6/20 rounds to something that shoots ammo costing over $40?  The 50s/w is not any better than the 7.62x54r in any category on game animals. The 7.62x54r has much better trajectory.   May create a larger hole but that is about it.  The 7.62x54r has been around for over 100 years and has been used on everything on the planet.  The 200 grain slugs of the 7.62x54r pack a wallop for much less money.

Sorry for that one.  I have no idea about such restrictions.  Here in SC, we can hunt deer with any centerfire, just no 22lr.  In your case, I guess it is worth some thought.  Is Indiana limited to only pistol rounds?

Indiana legal firearms for the Firearms Season are shotguns, handguns, center-fire rifles of specific cartridge dimensions, muzzleloading handguns and muzzleloading long guns.

The rifles with pistol cartridges that meet the specifications listed below will be allowed during the deer firearms season only.

The rifle must fire a cartridge that meets the following specifications:

A) fire a bullet of three hundred fifty-seven thousandths of an inch (.357) diameter or larger;
(B) have a minimum case length of one and sixteen hundredths (1.16) inches; and
(C) have a maximum case length of one and six hundred twenty-five thousandths (1.625) inches.

There are no restrictions on the type of action or number of cartridges that can be loaded at a time. There is also no requirement that the rifle be unloaded outside lawful shooting hours.

These rifles with pistol cartridges can be used during the deer firearms season as well as at state parks during the special deer reduction hunts. They can also be used by a youth hunter during the special youth deer season.

Rifles cannot be used while deer hunting on the following federal properties: Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Crane Naval Support Center, Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge and Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.

Some cartridges that will be legal include the following:

.357 Magnum
.38-40 Winchester
.41 Magnum
.41 Special
.44 Magnum

 Almost seems like legislation to limit hunters to pistol rounds with the case length restrictions.  I learn something new everyday.  Maybe that's another reason so many people are coming south.

500S&W is too big.The Mosin bolt face wouldn't open up enough.

Kinda screams for a straight case 45 wildcat blown out, trimmed to length, and loaded with standard 45 colt dies. Slightly bigger head, don't know how that would affect it. Looks like it would be cheap, too; aside from the barrel swap...wonder how it would feed....

Sounds like a case for the 45 win magnum, or a 45 cal wildcat based on the 30-06 case.

First of all the bolt face does not have to be modified. I have done this conversion and the bolt was not an issue the biggest part of the job is
1. Getting the old barrel off. These can be real tight on the M44's
2.,Getting the mag well and feed rails right.
3. The barrel I used came from Montana Rifle Smith at the time it was listed as a rifle barrel to shoot the 50AE.
I had no issues threading and chambering or fitting the barrel and have had no issues with extraction.
The recoil is significant. I used a red dot scope So I didn't mess with the bolt handle. But that is not a big issue either they can be        redone to clear scopes.

Just buy a lever action in 45LC and be happy! Or get a Lever in 357 Mag! Or get a lever in 44 Mag! For the cost of converting your rifle to 500 Mag you can have one ready to go!

The 500 sw round will fit a wssm 243 perfect.  They fit the bolt face and feed from the mag well like it was made for it.  I was (may still)do this if I can find a barrel. I could not get anyone to mic the outside dia of there H&R 500 sw barrel.

The chamber swell of all H&R barrels except the 10ga and 12ga slug barrels is 1.1XX", just ahead of the swell on the .500S&W it's .990" and tapers to .890".

I guess I just can't see spending any time or money in customizing such a crude and clunky rifle. The only thing the Nagant has going for it is that it is CHEAP and powerful. For a rough and ready beater truck gun as issued it makes some sense but it just can not be made into a really fine sporting rifle no matter what you may spend in the attempt. As others have said, get a Marlin 1894 or a Taurus Thunderbolt or a Handi Rifle.
