Need a new multi-tool
« on: October 16, 2008, 08:08:47 AM »
I've never been much on multi-tools, but two years ago I bought a $30 Gerber Suspension multi-tool and carried it with me deer hunting. I found that I used it quite a bit out in the field, and it saved the day when I realized my father had purchased a bargain basement can opener to bring to the deer lease.

I've been thinking that I need to upgrade to a better, yet still reasonably priced model. The suspension model is fine, except that I have big fingers, and I usually have a hard time deactivating the lock and getting the proper tool out. I feel the pliers could be a little more ridgid, but I try not to abuse them too much either.

What does everybody else with big hands use?

I guess it all depends on what you call reasonably priced...under $150....under $100...under $50...

I personally carry a Leatherman Charge TTI.  I use it hunting, on the range, and at work.  The blades on it are nice and you don't have to open the tool to get to  the blades.  It's quite a hefty tool and would be more suitable for those with large hands.  Nice assortment of tools with it including a can opener and a nock crimper on the pliers.  I dropped around $115 in the Charge TTI over a year ago, but there are other models (the TTI has titanium handles) of the charge available for less.  I think Cabela's has a version right now for around $80...but that may not be as economical as you'd like....

I have the charge TTI ,and XTI I prefer the TTI I just don't care for the gut hook on the XTI.I bought the TTI from midsouth shooters supply for $69.95 plus shipping when they were on sale.
a couple of months back,it was a heck of a deal.
The leatherman wave is a nice tool, and I would carry it if I didn't have the TTI.I sometimes see them for around $50.I'll send you a PM if I see one in the next few days.
