asa-preserving bait

do you prefer sodium benzoate over pickling salt or does it matter?i like to experiment with some homemade concotions and just wondered if the salt would"change" the smell of the bait.thanks-evan

The pickling salt is a completely natural product with no iodine added like regular table salt.  I have experimented with baits preserved with pickling salt and found no difference in animal response than bait preserved with sodium benzoate.  However, if one is going to be trapping around livestock or if deer are thick in the area, the salt might attract them more than sodium benzoate.  Ace
