ruger quit making them because of they were junk and ruger couldn't or wouldnt fix the problems in them  now they are "collector" items with people paying 3-4 times new price for guns with problems. (go figgure) havent heard much on the magnum research probablly due to their prices and i don't know anyone else making one at this time.

www.excelarms.com would be the answer to your prayers. Their "Accelerator" rifle in WMR (or.17 HMR.) is said to be pretty reliable, at least a heck of a lot better than Ruger. A pretty slick little unit.

I have the above, very accurate.
Rem still makes a 597 mag. Can be had in laminated heavy barrel. Or standard synthetic and go to boyds for a stock. Everything else is high or out of production that I am aware of.
Marlins and Winchesters can be found on the used shelves. High Standard as well.

I have the Rem. 597M that i bought several years ago, it's been accurate and reliable...  I've shot quite a few chucks and other pest here on the farm with it, and i'm very happy with it...

Look around for a NIB BRNO 611 or 611A.

Some online dealers list them available @ $429.

Buy a bolt action marlin.  Cheap, reliable, accurate.  Ugly but can't have everything.  Like my 882 and the 917V I have.  The 25M would be a great choice if you are going to mount a scope.
You will be very happy.
You also will be able to shoot all types and weights of bullet in the bolt rifle.  The under 40 crowd of hyper velocity ammo may or may not function the auto.
