Author Topic: I shoot one of the new AWA lightnings today (Read 392 times)

I shot a ten round stage with the lightning that Mohave Gambler is bringing out to shoots here on the west coast. I had a bit of trouble stuffing the last two rounds in. The mag spring is really stout. It cycled very stiff for me. I was waving it all over the place on each round. I had no trouble with missfeeds or anything, but I did have a couple of misses and that was because like a dummy I didn't know to hold the bead in the center of the elk horn rear sight I was lining it up on the top of the sight. I figured it out an shot the rest clean. I only shot the one stage with it. I liked the light weight of it. The stock and butt plate fit me, but the stock could have been an inch or so longer. The blueing on the reciever was first class and the wood though plain was OK. Since I had never practiced with it or shot a lightning I figure I might do better next time. Guess that is it for the first time shooting one. :-)

Now is an elkhorn sight like a really big buckhorn? :wink:

Well, I don't have any of the buckhorns sights on my own rifles. I would rate it as large. I shoot with a tang sight on my match rifle, a Marlin. I don't know what I was thinking, I knew that you put the bead in the center of the buckhorn. I lined up my first two shots with the front bead centered on top across the two tips of the sight. I realized my mistake and since i was shooting smokeless yesterday, I could see I was nailing the rest of the targets dead center. I am actually a fair rifle shot, just don't ask about my pistol work

I got to shoot one of these AWA as well this week end. Ihave to say I didnt take to it to well... Stock was way to short for me... I"d like it better if the slide was farther forward to..Ole Sarge said it was a bit picky about teh OAL of the rounds.. It would take some getting use to and I"d have to add some wood to that stock and do a lot of pratice.. But who knows I might just yet.
