Model 670 with 3-position safety?
« on: July 03, 2008, 07:44:49 AM »
I was in a local gunshop today browsing around to see what they had in stock.  They had a Winchester Model 670 in there that caught my interest.  I've already got 1 670 at home chambered in .225 Winchester.  Good little gun, but it has the standard 2 position trigger safety on it.  This 670 I saw today though, has a bolt-mounted 3 position safety which I didn't think any of the 670's had.  Was this just an earlier model of the gun?  It's in .30-06 and I've already got 2 '06's, but it's marked $299 which means that at this place I can probably get it for $225.  Was almost thinking of getting it to rebarrel to something more interesting . . .

I've seen 670's with both kinds if safeties.   I think the trigger safety was first but I'm not sure.

My friend had one in .30-06 with a 3 position safety.  It was the hardest kicker I ever shot.  For $225.00 I'd already have it at the house.  A .35 Whelan would be interesting.

I was able to examine a 670 (like new) in .30-06 at the gun show yesterday.  It had a 3 position safety.  I think they were asking around $550.00.  It was very nice looking.
