So what is evrybodoy up to?
« on: September 12, 2008, 04:29:59 PM »
Seems kinda quiet around this forum. I won't get to do any hunting for at least a couple more weeks, so if you would share what you are doing, it may take some of the edge of of the wait. I did set up a bear bait just for grins on my land in Clark Co. and to my surprise it got hit regularly. I have 5 points so I could draw a tag there next year, but I'm not sure if I want to use it there or wait another 3-4 years and hunt farther north . Anyway, What's going on with everyone?

Hi WiPartimer,

I'm thinking that as Winter starts setting in, more Wisconsinites will be showing up on this forum.

As far as "what's going on" with me, well, you know how it is in Wisconsin: Chasing huge deer herds out of the garden; trying to find that last inch of space in the freezer for the constant supply of walleye, bass, northern, and trout; making sure to not get between mama bear and her cubs when going down to the mailbox; calling coyotes in from off the porch; driving carefully to avoid collisions with those huge swamp bucks; watching bald eagles soar across open fields; inhaling giant breaths of some of the cleanest, freshest, air in the world; watching the sun set on clear, nearly pristine, lakes, that have never experienced an outboard motor; and of course, watching the Packers kick butt without Bret Favre. I could go on but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. You own a piece of the rock in Wisconsin, so I'm sure you understand. :)

Best of luck to you in your upcoming hunting adventures. I'm hearing that it's looking good for nearly all species.
Mike

Hey WIPartimer,
I am a WIPartimer too, I believe I would be affectionately referred to as a FIB by a WIFulltimer, but I don't hold a grudge.  I make as many trips behind the cheddar curtain as I can, it truly is a beautiful place with great people.  I mostly hunt and fish in Vilas county.  I have not made it up there for a while though and my trips this fall will be pretty sparse except for deer season because my wife and I just had our first baby (a girl who I am sure will also love hunting and fishing some day).  I am hoping to make a fishing trip over to the Miss pool 4 & 5 in a few weeks but will have to see if time and the wife allow.  This forum usually picks up around this time of year and is fairly active until about March or so when the winter starts to lighten up a bit. This board has a good group of guys, I encourage you to check it frequently.

Anybody else doing much?  Cheeshead, what are you up to?

Hi Guys,

I have been doing some fishing on some very quite lakes. Catching as many as 25 large blue gills and crappies, vertical jigging with small jigs and waxies.

Also one outing with my bow and arrow with no deer coming into range. Such beautiful weather for these activities lately, I enjoy it so much. Good times.

Some motorcycle touring on the most rural paved roads, watching the fall colors  and aboundant wildlife, especially turkeys, some bear and deer.

well i made it out bowhuntin this past weekend for the first time in 17 years. I saw 1 lttle one go running by my stand and jumped 4 more when i was walking out. My Dad was at the cabin with me, at one point he said he had 8 deer feeding all around him,he was pretty excited ;).  On the down side, The @#$%&^ beavers came back and rebuilt a small dam. I set a #330 by thier den, tore a couple holes in the dam and sat out watching it w/ my 30-30. No luck so I tore the dam completely apart (again), and will remeber to bring up more traps and a couple snares next time. All in all a great time to live in Wisconsin!

With weather in the 70's+, it's been tough to think hunting, atleast for me.
Caught a few river smallies, hope to get some more before it gets too cold.
Tomorrow will put the finishing touches on some ground blinds in a new woods for the Youth Deer Hunt.
Hope to get 1-2 bow stands up on Wednesday.
Still have to get the kids out squirrel hunting sometime also ('course that can wait til after deer season)

Alot to squeeze in with work, coaching girls volleyball, coaching fall softball, mowing the lawn, watching football  :) , and everything around the house.  Oh well, can't complain at all really.  Being that busy just proves how blessed I really am.

Take care guys and enjoy Wisconsin this time of year.... 8)

Went to Phillips this weekend and caught a few little northern, bass and some rockbass on the South Fork Flambeau River. I spent a little extra time thinking how this may very well be the last time untill May.Kind of sad really. I got 44 meat chickens two weeks ago and they already have a Nov 6 date with the butcher. The garden has some sugar snaps and will be stacking firewood soon. Work is slow but God has always been good and probably always will. Later ihookem,
