Got my frame bacK!
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:24:24 AM »
Today I got a package back from H & R that looked oddly like the box I originally shipped my frame in. I got all excited and opend the packing slip. H & R shipped the gun back to me dated sept 9 witha prepaid fed ex ground label(nice touch)  This would be great except I mailed it 8/28 the first time!  I was hoping to get a 308 bull barrell fited with scope rail to my frame.  Now I am trying to decide if I should send it to Ilion or try to by a 2nd hand barrell and have it fitted locally.  Any advice would be appreciated.  BTW anyone know what the current turn around time at Ilion is?

Thanks,
Brad

If i'm not mistaken, (And Tim or anyone can correct me if i'm mistaken) I think the turn around time for getting a new bbl fitted is 6-8 weeks through NEF.  Recently with the move it has taken some a while longer but it seems to be improving quite quickly.

A local smith could fit the bbl but sometimes they take 6 weeks... or at least around my neck of the woods they do!

Good Luck

Got mine back today ;D.  It was accepted on August 1 so that makes it about 7 weeks.  Just as promised.

BTW..I had a .308 bull barel fitted to my .223 fluted varmit.  So far it looks good.  I added the 1 1/2 lbs of lead in the butt-end of the stock and put the scope on it.  I will clean it up and take it to the range ina couple of days. I will post range report ASAP. 8)

I didn't get any work back!  I got only what I sent the frame, no barrel!

If you sent it to Gardner, they're returning it to you to send direct to Ilion, due to the closing of Gardner forever next month, they don't want to continue forwarding them between Gardner and Ilion and back again for return to the customer. BATF regs require it to be shipped back to the customer from the receiving plant which would be Gardner when a firearm is sent there first. So send it to Ilion using the prepaid label if you want the barrel fitted by H&R.
