Sterling forest state park
« on: August 26, 2008, 04:53:16 PM »
this year I did not receive my application to apply for a permit for hunting. When I called the state park official he said the state hadn't authorized the $100 in postage to mail out the applications. I asked when did they expect to get the $100 funding!! he said they didn't know and if they didn't get by 9/15/08 they didn't seem to know or care if hunting permits would be issued this year. I asked if I could pick it up in person and they laughed and pretty much hung up the phone-that's hunting in NY for you>

I have been checking their web site every day for the last 2 weeks waiting for this year's application process to show up and yesterday was the first time they updated their web site to show this year's application and dates.
I guess it's up to each person to follow up for themselves.
Sept 15 is the cut off for opening week end.
I e-mailed them last night to see if they would be sending me a renewal or if I should just reapply.

They told me they weren't going to issue any  permits to anyone this year if the home office didn't send the $100. I told him if I came down and filled out an application could I get a permit-he said no way.  He told me if they don't get it by September 15 (didn't sound hopefull) sounds like no hunting. I'm going to contact the head of the state park commission.

Their web site says that they issue 4,500 permits a year. That has to cost alot more than $100 to mail out all those permits.
They have not replied to my e-mail yet, so I'm not going to wait to hear from them, I mailed in the application just to be on the safe side.
This is N.Y., so it wouldn't surprize me if they use this as an excuse to stop the hunting in the park.
Let's hope this all works out.

Here's the reply I got frrom Sterling Forest:

We apologize for the delay.

Hunting applications will be mailed out very soon.

Also, the deadline for reapplying hunters has been extended to Sept. 30.
There is no need for you to come to our visitor center for your application.
Your application is packaged with all the other hunters.
We cannot print you another because you are being mailed one.

Thanks for sending me the e-mail.

I just now got the same reply from them from the e-mail I sent to them a few days ago.

Good Luck this season. Hopefully there is a monster buck out there with your name on it.

If it's a monster buck and it has your name on it, I will post the pictures after I tag it.
