NIB Huntsman
« on: September 10, 2008, 05:28:10 PM »
I'd tried to find a huntsman barrel in the NEF classifieds, then Cabelas got a new shipment in of the sidekicks.  I ordered one, since I wasn't having much luck on a barrel.  Then I went into a sporting goods store I passed on my way to pick up some parts for work.  They had a new, in the box, Huntsman for $160 out the door.  My son had said he wished he knew I was ordering a Sidekick, he would like to have one.  Called him, sure, he still wanted one.  He now has the sidekick, I have a new Huntsman.  I guess it could be called new, but it has a SN starting with NT, which means it's a 2003 yr. manufacture.  It has the 7/8 breech plug, even.  I still have to decide what to do about the ignition, I imagine a 25 ACP, or some home machined variant thereof, will be in my future.  Now to start working on loads, etc.  ML season opens in SC on Oct. 1.

I've got a place in St. Louis MO with two NIB huntsman combos.  They are pricey, but here is the reason:  They are RIFLE frames because they have the 243 Win barrel along with the muzzle loader.  If you are looking for the ultimate platform, that would be it.

I've got over the desire to change barrels, I'd rather have a complete gun.  I have 17 of the rifles and 3 shotguns, plus a Huntsman, now.

I have the huntsman barrel fitted to the rifle frame that was a 243. Then I sold the 243 barrel so it is a dedicared frame to the muzzleloader now. I also have a sidekick, which barely gets used.

Update.  The new huntsman got a nice doe last week.  Shot her at about 50 yds, blew the lungs out.  She ran about 30 yds and piled up, those 385 gr. Great Plains bullets work well.

No pictures.  I kind of figure that one dead doe in a pine thicket looks pretty much like the other 25 or 30 I've killed in the last 5 yrs or so.  A big buck, now, that would be another story!
