Load data for 30-06 150gr. Accubond with 4064 powder
« on: September 23, 2008, 09:43:03 AM »
Hey guys, I inherited a Rem. 700 BDL in 30-06 (1963 model) and I want to shoot the 150gr. Accubond. I have tried IMR 4350, but I also want to try IMR 4064. Anybody have any good loads with this combo. I've shot this gun quite a bit over the years with 180gr. and 165gr. bullets, but I haven't tried the 150's. THANKS

I've had good loads with both powders. With Imr 4350, 59grs shoot under half inch for me, and with Imr 4064 52grs is same or close to it. As always, start lower and work up. Also the 150gr accubond is all I've used the last 3 seasons, and has performed very close to the partition of same weight while shooting slightly better group wise in my rifles. And that was using noslers 2nds. I think I'll keep them!

John:  My Lyman Manual shows some good loads with 4064 and the 150 gn bullet.  It ranges from 48 grains (2695'/sec at 36K CUP) to 53 grains (3012'/sec at 49,600 CUP).  One of the accuracy loads listed for this powder bullet combination is 52.5 gns for 2915'/sec and a factory duplication load is 51.5 gns for 2900'sec.  HTH.  Mikey.

IMR-4350, H-4350 and IMR-4064 are my favorite powders for the 30-06.

I've had excellent results with 150 grain bullets using 52.0 grains of IMR-4064. This is a maximum load in some manuals so the usual precautionary work-up to it should be followed.

Taken from Wayne Van Zwoll's book, Elk Rifles, Cartridges and Hunting Tactics (p. 258 ff.):

Jack O'Connor liked 53 gr. IMR4320 or IMR4064 with 150 gr. bullet for about 2950 MV

Ken Waters chose 52 gr. IMR4320 and 150 gr. Sierra.

In a "Gun Notes" column by Craig Boddington, Guns & Ammo (May 2004, pp. 30-31), he listed 60 gr. AA3100 + 150 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip for about 2900 fps, and 59 gr. H414 + 150 gr. Barnes X for about 3000.

The same info and loads for other bullet weights in '06 appears in Boddington's afticle "Optimum '06" which used to be available at

PS -- Just checked and the link does not go to that article anymore.  A "search" on the G&A site might (I didn't try it) bring the article up out of archives.
