.223 Handi shell ejecting question
« on: September 26, 2008, 06:45:18 AM »
Thanks in advance for reading and replying. My .223 Handi ultralight ejects the spent shell about 1/4 inch and I then pull them out. Is this normal? Should they be flying over my shoulder? The gun shoots super well when I stay off the coffee, but the shell ejecting is a question I need answered. Thanks

Welcome! The topic you originally replied to was over 3yrs old, started a few months before H&R started changing over to extractors that only lift the case out of the chamber enough to be manually removed. Older centerfire rifles had ejectors that were spring powered and failed to eject sometimes for various reason, they're now only available on rimfires and shotguns, all current and recent production centerfire rifle barrels have extractors. Spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky, your time will be well spent. ;)

Do you have an ejector or an extractor? If it is new, it is probably an extractor. It will lift the case out and you have to pick it out as you describe. The ejector will throw it over your shoulder. I have an older model and it will throw it over my shoulder if I do not catch it. It is not a problem until I go from an extractor to an ejector. I some times forget to catch the case and then I have to look through the grass for it. ::)
