just got the new 243
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:46:10 PM »
i just got the 243 ss bergara its the 24 in. my only complaint is there are some small scratches on the side. its not that bad it came from the plastic packing i guess. more like scuffs but its a hunting gun so its going to get its fair share of little dings and scuffs.  we'll call it character .  I'm going to put it all together after i go hunting with the 15 in. 209x50 . i got the prohunter thumbhole flextech HD camo butstock and the plain encore HD camo forend they almost match.  i think the pro hunter butstock has more definition in the dark leaves but its close enough for me.  i hope that when i do get to putting it all together . i don't have a bunch of accuracy problems . I've read good and some bad but more good . i hope my experience with this bergara barrel is a good one and if not i think they will take care of it if there is a problem. from what I've read there CS i good. maybe i wont have to find out. so far I've had good luck with the 2 barrels i have but they are t/c. so I'm sure i will be posting the good bad and ugly as i go . ??? ;D

Congrats! I hope it shoots great and serves you well. I really like the attention paid to straight the barrels before and after drilling, diamond honing the bore before rifling, blah, blah, blah... I really wanted a 209x50 and ordered one from Midsouth, but they were back-ordered indefinately so I switched my order to an Endeavor that was in stock. My impatience cost me an extra $150. Anyway, please do tell us how it shoots, fits, etc. I been pretty happy with Encore products, but my last Pro Hunter barrel in 30.06 had visible drilling marks and copper fouls so badly I only shot it once. It was accurate, but who wants to spend 2 hours scrubbing copper? Bergara seems to pay a lot of attention to bore smoothness, so I would be really interested in the accuracy and copper fouling properties you find with the Bergara.

If you reload, try H-414 with any Nosler bullet seated 20 to 40 thousands from the lands. Oh....go with a bullet grain weight less than 100. For some reason....when I load up a 100 grain bullet, all heck breaks loose and my groups look more like patterns. BTW....Nosler BT's seem to work the best.

My .243 Encore (TC barrel) likes Hornady 87 gr. BT's over IMR 4350.
