Quick Second shot?
« on: September 01, 2008, 11:37:52 AM »
How does everyone carry ammo for a quick second shot? I've always worn an upland vest with shell loops for my shotguns, but the Sportster what does everyone use? Loose rounds in coat pocket?

Loose rounds in a pocket has always worked for me, but an elastic butt stock shell holder that's been modified with some extra stitching or superglue works apparently, there are also belt pouches that are intended for rimfire ammo that are nice too, although the butt stock carrier is likely the fastest other than carrying an extra round between your fingers as some do. Some have mentioned carrying a spare magazine for a repeater with the extra rounds in it, then a round can be slid out of the magazine and right into the chamber. Lots of ways to skin a cat!!  :D

At one time Craftsman tools, Sears, had a peel and stick holder for extra screwdriver tips.  Took a piece of one of these and stuck it on the side of my Contender to hold three extra rounds.  Works well but I don't know if they still sell those.

I use an UM belt pouch, with extra rounds between my fingers(left hand), if I think I will need them.  I will have to try that magazine trick!

one could fabricate a holder to screw/glue onto the stock from alum or block plastic.

simply drill the holes, as many as you like, and as deep as you like, glue/doubleback tape, screw onto the butt stock where ever meets your needs.

i've even gone so far as to drill holes the right size in a stock to carry extra rounds but it is a metal 'skeleton' stock

you can get as elaborate as you wish with the design.

I use one of those replacement nylon watchbands purchased at the discount store. The watchband has a second usually elastic strap over the web wristband. I simply placed snapcaps and pinned them to obtain proper spacing (I had room for 5 -17hmr/22mag shells) I then used a sewing machine to double stitch where the pins marked the proper spacing. If your not comfortable using a sewingmachine ask your wife, it only took me about ten minutes to set up and sew/finish. I wear the self made ammo holder on my right wrist and it really is "Handi" !
