5.7X28FN question.
« on: October 05, 2008, 03:39:05 PM »
Does anybody make a barrel for the Encore chambered in 5.7X28FN. I can't seem to find one at T/C. Hope I didn't just overlook it. Thank you.

Don't know but you can try SSK
Also ballistics on the 5.7 are 90% of 22 Hornet.  And the Hornet is rimmed.
Just an idea.

The 5.7 uses a lighter bullet than the .22 Hornet.  With a 45 grain bullet in my Hornet handloads the max velocity is 2,700 fps.  With my .22 K-Hornets the max velocity with a 45 grain bullet is 2,800 fps.  The 5.7 is not even close.

My piont exactly.  When I saw the 5.7 at first I thought it would be a great varmint or small game round and then compared it to 22 Hornet and the hornet won.

Here is a place that lists the 5.7X28 as an available chamber

http://www.matchgrademachine.com/chamberings_public.php

There is the novelty of the 5.7X28, but practically, it is only a little faster than a 22 mag. I would think that a 221 Fireball would be much more practical. You can get some where around 3000 fps with 50 grain bullets or load it down to 22 Mag levels. But the great thing about this country, is choice. And we do not all have the same tastes or wishes. May I add my opinion about my experience . I had a 5.7x28 Encore by OTT. It was a fun barrel if only you don't reload and you buy your ammo. The 5.7x28 was fun and accurate but you have no new brass for reloading when I had mine. The once fired brass is junk. The junk brass turned me off.
