Barrel length can be pretty important depending on what you want to hunt with it. In you want to shoot handgun config with the 10"-12" barrels your shots will have to be kept shorter to be effective (the 16" barrels are awkward in handgun mode). It's much easier to make good and longer shots with the longer barrel/stock set of the shotgun config. Classic VR 410 only barrels were 21" - assume G2 are 23".
I've been a serious handgun hunter since the mid-late 60's, but the 410 is a different animal in a handgun for me. I didn't do too bad with a 10" VR barrel on jump-shot cottontails and jack rabbits in thick cover, scored a few quail, grouse and pheasants with it, but I can still hear the doves laughing at me from the time I took it out for the opener of dove season about 25 years ago. Something like 2 boxes of shells and not a single feather. I sold off the 10" and bought a 21" VR to replace it for my Classic Contenders, and it scores much better on all species for me, very well on some of them and shooting clays.
So, while the handgun 410 barrels are fun to play with, they leave a lot to be desired for hunting IMO.
