Type of SCOTUS Appt by Both Candidate.
« on: October 06, 2008, 12:37:35 PM »
I was just listening to Foxs news when the commentator brought up SCOTUS fall session began with a case on tobacco, again.  He then went on to ask the question to both Presidential candidates, what type of justices would you appoint to SCOTUS in light of the justices ages now with the probability of at least one retirement.  McCain answered that he would appoint a judge with a strict interpertation of the Constitution withou legislation from the bench.  Obama said he would appoint a justice who had empathy for the single mother, young person who made mistakes, disabled and poverty stricken defendents.  What about the empathy for a hard working, legal citizens that demand proper and appropriate compensation for wrongs?  What the hell does empathy have to do with law?  The symbol for the courts is a blind woman, so as not to bias from appearances.  What the hell does empathy have to do with law?  Just appearances.  So, Obama's judgment is that emotion and appearances are most important issues for a Justice appointment.  This is just another indicator of his terrilby wrong attitude and judgment regarding the duties of the President.  The Office of President is not about popularity, it is about leadership.  Yes, an appointment of his type of justice would be most popular from those who benefited from emotional decisions, but would drastically reduce the precedent of law and equal application to all under SCOTUS.  Another example of really poor decision making and judgment from a glib rhetoric orator.
