Has anyone elsehad this .50 cal. Huntsman ramrod problem?
« on: September 27, 2008, 09:58:47 AM »
I have a ramrod that won't extend .When I try to loosen it from its stowed position ,the concave tip comes off and the inner rod remains locked -up.  I believe the inner rod is screwed into its stowed position too tightly and has more retention friction than the tip friction can overcome. Would loctiting the tip in place allow normal removal--- need some experienced help here?    Ken

I had a similar situation with the production ramrod. I managed to just screw the tip back on very tightly and when I backed off on it the inner rod let loose and worked correctly. I finally just bought the Hubbard rod which is so much better than the production rod it is not worth my time to mess with the production one. I also like the Hubbard rod as it extends two inches longer than the stock rod which is another strong benefit, besides being significantly stronger and having the correct threads instead of the wrong ones and a tip that is relieved for the newer pointed bullets. All told the Hubbard rod is what should have been made and sent with the rifle in the beginning.

Thanks, I was beginning to think I had a unique problem. I'm a little concerned about screwing down on the tip because that might tighten the inner rod even more into the stowed position. Are there any other members who have had this problem;what resolved it? Ken

Kody,

The inner rod only has threads to lock it into the extended position. The jag tip has the threads to lock it into the stored position. Remove the jag tip completely, rap the ramrod straight dowm on a block of wood, I would bet (know, I just done it with one of mine) your inner rod will come out. You will want to thread the jag tip tightly on the inner rod BEFORE pushing it back in to the stored position.
