I'm new to archery this year and I have a quick question on arrow shaft "size". To be more precise, how do I interpret the different size designations (i.e. 2117, 2314, 2214, etc...)? All of my archery buddies are being vague on this, whether from lack of knowledge themselves or to keep an "edge" over me, but I have absolutely ZERO clue as to what I'm looking at when I see these numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is a website out that tells you what arrows you should shoot through your setup and why. I think it is Easton but i am looking now and can't find it. It's called the Shaft Selector or something of that nature.

Click on an arrow and when the specs for an arrow come up, on the left of the screen ou will see a shaft selecter menu. click the one that the arrows will mainly be used for and then you will begin a survey, and will eventually find out what arrow is best for you.

Thanks, but I was hoping that someone could actually tell me what those numbers stand for. Maybe nobody knows. Hmmmm....

I think the 1st number is diameter and the 2nd number is wall thickness.

The 1st two digit number is the diameter of the arrow in sixtyfourths of an inch and the second two digit number is the wall thickness in thousands of an inch. Example: 2216 arrow would be an arrow that has a diameter of 22/64" and a wall thickness of .016.

Carbon arrows are different. A 4560 arrow would be an arrow for a bow that has a 45-60lb draw weight. Many of the companies are different though. some say 300 or 4000. the best be with carbons is to look at the back of the box if you are unsure. it usually tells you what arrown you need.
