What scope
« on: October 06, 2008, 02:57:23 PM »
I have a CZ 453 on order. I will need a scope for it. I am a Leupold fan. What kind of scope and what power do you have? What are your like's and dis-like's about your choice? I am thinking about the VXII in a 3x9x40 or maybe the VXI line in a 4x12x50...This will be mainly used for target fun, and trigger time. Maybe as a small game getter. I am a believer in good glass, and have never been dissappointed in any Leupold I have ever owned. So please tell me your experience with your brand and set up. Thanks all Drop

I am also a Leupold fan, I would suggest the Leupold VX-II Rimfire Rifle Scope Extended Focus Range 3-9x 33mm Fine Duplex Reticle Matte.  See link for example.

This looks like the ultimate rimefire scope to me.

I agree you cannot go wrong with a Leupold.

I'm not the biggest Leupold fan, but that rimfire scope would be an excellent choice, as would the rimfire models from Burris.  Weaver also makes some fine rimfire scopes in its Classic line, which I would put up against scopes that are twice the price.  I'd probably opt for a fixed power scope myself, as I get older and gain more experience every year, I am gravitating toward fixed power scopes more often, as I very rarely ever use the zoom on a variable.  But I'm definitely in the minority as far as that goes.

To me it would partly depend on what caliber you ordered? If you picked 17HM2 or the 17HMR I would opt for a bit more power. Mostly because out past about 50yrds the little .17 pill is very hard to see in a regular target. I went with the 6.5-20x40 EFR on one of my 17HM2.

I need to take a better pic of the 17HM2(bottom rifle)

Since you said target use mostly I'd get a Bushnell Elite 3200 7-21. I love those scopes and seem to be getting more and more of them.

I ordered the .22lr. I am looking pretty hard at the VXI line in a 4x12x40.... But that could all change when I get to the gun counter on saturday... I am sure I will look at a lot of them. Drop

I have the VX-I 3-9x50mm matte finish on a Remington 700 ADL in 22-250 Remington, so far one dead coyote.  I usually go for the VX-II, but this scope is excellant with the 50mm objective.

Actually in my opinion a very BAD choice. The VX-I 4-12 as I recall has no provision for adjusting parallax and at 12X you MUST have it for your use.

How critacal is paralax@50 to 100 yd's? I have heard some about paralax adjustment..But I dont know what to look for. I havent experienced it to my knowledge..But to be honest I dont think I know what to look for.. I havent noticed any kind of distortion that I can recall..But not knowing what to look for could be the culprit. Drop

On my Remington 541-T, I installed a Leupold Compact VX-II in 3x9x33...I also returned to the factory and had the parallex adjusted to 75 yards, if I remember right...

For squirrels, out to 50 yards, it's a keeper...

I decided to go with the Leupold VXII in a 4X12X40 with the AO.... I Hope to get it mounted on Sunday and maybe to the range for awhile.. They are having a  varmint shoot there tomorrow ao I am not sure the 50 yd range will br open... Also I  the wood on my new 453 is very nice black American walnut.. Long pretty grain with a few burle swirl's on the bottom of the forend... Thanks all Drop
