How critical is length of pull in a fusil for hunting?
« on: August 09, 2003, 10:45:30 AM »
I'm looking at a 20ga flintlock fusil with a length of pull of 13-3/4".My other muzzleloaders, including flinters, have a l.o.p. of 14-1/2". I will be hunting with full charge  shot or round ball loads.
I'm wondering what if any negatives are there with this shorter stocked piece?
Thanks.

My experiance with gun's is shorter L.O.P. is easier to adapt too than longer. Long pull's; make ya streach, and it's tough ta find the shoulder.
If it's really short for ya, you'll git hit in the face by your own hand!

You must be a long armed feller with custom gun's ta have 14 1/2" pull.

I measure LOP from "center" of butt plate to trigger,(on the gun).
and;  from inside elbow at 90 degree's to middle joint index finger,(like yer gonna pull a trigger

   In all liklehood it will come on target a little faster due to its shorter length.  I have several differant lenths in my mzl and the short ones are a little easier to shoot for me.  Anything over 14.5 is going to be a stretch for my arms.  But,the one that is being built(.58 with a 44 inch bbl) has a lop of 14.5.stay safe....king :)  :)
