Military gear
« on: April 01, 2005, 04:50:21 AM »
Lately, I've been seeing alot of military surplus gear for sale online. I now see Cabelas is selling it as well, with what looks to me like reasonable prices. Anyone ordered any lately? I am curious as to the condition of it- if its as "new like" as they say.

I bought a set of 3-color desert camo from Cabela's, and had to return it due to poor fit. the rise in the trousers was too short. Every time I scrunched down in the bushes, I felt like I was going to get up a soprano.  I really like the toughness of surplus stuff, but it didn't  fit properly. Of course, that was before I dropped 30 lbs, due to illness.
I found some of Cabela's Open Country camo that fits very comfortably, and now am satisfied .

If you want real military gear, go get some military surplus clothing. The ECWS cold weather gear is top notch and all of it is tough as nails. Get yourself a pair of mickey mouse boots for the cold weather too. The military polypro long underwear is warmer than any commercial thermals I have tried.  Try the Sportsmans Guide for some good deals on surplus.

Spanky beat me to it......Sportsmansguide.  Best deals on any of it is online.

I've purchase alot of surplus online and like mentioned, like it because of the durability.  I got some wool "overpants" pretty cheap online but don't remember where.  Also, got a 10 pack of Czech wool glove liners that I wear all the time....cheap.

I have a difficult time getting what I want from Sportmans Guide because they are frequently out of stock on certain
sizes or items and back ordering takes forever. I have been getting my military gear from www.cheaperthan dirt.com or
www.rangerjoes.com. My son is an officer in the Army and he and his buddies get a lot of their gear from ranger joes.
