REMINGTON MODEL 5 .22

These sure look interesting for the money.  Anyone ever seen or shot one?

Like the other imports that Remington has, these are the same guns as the Charles Daly Superior line of rimfires that was sold under that name.  I looked at one of them right after Remington starting putting their name on them.  I think that they are really nice guns.  The one I looked at had a walnut stock, this was literally RIGHT after Remington got the rights, so I think that a few guns were sent out with the old walnut stocks that were on the Daly's.  The finish was great, gun felt good in my hands, I was impressed with it.  It felt like a quality, solid gun.  Much better than anything Savage or Marlin has out, and for the money, I'll take it over a CZ, Ruger, or Remington 504.  The CZ might beat it in accuracy, but I think that the Model 5 is a nicer gun.

I saw it at a Dick's Sporting Goods in Cincinnati, I went back two days later to get it and it'd been sold.  They didn't know if they were getting anymore, but I haven't seen one on the rack since then.

The few reviews that I read on the Daly's were good, and there was a review on the .22 Magnum in an issue of RIFLE a couple of months ago.  The price has come down on them a decent bit too, in the last year.  I'd like to have one in each round.

The model 5 is the CZ 99 rimfire.  I bought one of those and when I ordered another clip for the gun, I had to order from Big Green.  The Remington has better wood than mine, the checkering on mine is real sloppy.  DP

I just got one a few weeks ago. The laminated stock model for $249. The magazine on mine needed work to get it feeding correctly but it's working better now. I've shot close to 1" at 50yds which is pretty good for me. With more work and trying different ammo I hope to do better. With the price of center fire ammunition getting high I wanted a rifle I could shoot all day for next to nothing. I found it.

I'd much rather have the Model 547, albeit, they are a bit more expensive. But it would be like having a Model 700 in .22LR caliber.

I believe the 547 is about $1200.00.

I believe the 547 is about $1200.00.

The .17 HMRs are currently being listed on that infamous auction website for around $950. I'm guessing that a .22LR could be had for the same or less (although on that same site, a .22LR is going for around $1200) depending on the dealer. But what's your point? To me they "look interesting for the money." Not as interesting as a 452 or 453 CZ Varmint model at their respective prices, but interesting none the less. If I had the extra dough and was extremely serious about a super fine .22LR, I would simply be ecstatic to own a Model 700 clone in .22LR caliber. I'd pay $1000 in a heartbeat for that rifle - if I could afford it.

I think I'd try to find a 504 first(and I may still.)  I see new ones for around $400.00.

As far as I can tell the 547 is just a little bit fancier version of the 504.

The Model 5 sells for a hair over $200.00.

The CZ452 America is probably the best bolt action .22 for the money and I might go that route.  I just hatr buying guns without the Remington logo on the barrel.

I agree with you on that Swampman. Great prices for what you get on the CZ .22, but that model 547 just looks so fine wearing that satin finished CDL style stock. And I think it has a totally different receiver than the other Remingtons that you mentioned. Plus, it comes with a Shilen match grade barrel and a 1/2" 5-shot group @ 50 yards guarantee, in addition to a 3# custom shop tuned trigger. But money talks and it will also probably be one of the CZs for me. But fortunately, the CZ appears to be a great value I think that is pretty exciting in its own right.

By the way, you like Remingtons? I would have never thought that about you after reading some of your other posts. :D Of course I'm Just kidding you there Swampman. I'd say you are the ultimate Remington fan.

Some folks wear sports jerseys & the hats of their favorite ball team.  I wear Remington hats & shirts.

Yes the triggers are adjustable I have one of the model 5's and my trigger turned out between 2 1/2 and 3lbs. pull with no noticeable creep which is also, adjustable and it keeps up with my new CZ 453 American as far as accuracy at 50yds. usually between 1/2" to 3/4" groups using Fed. Champion 510's.   :)

I have poor eye sight any more but, this little rifle shows to be a consistent shooter would make a great squirrel gun. winds were 5-10 mph.    :)
