« on: October 11, 2008, 11:49:40 AM »
I'm having trouble with the neck sizing or case resizing 308 Lee die, the one that knocks out the primer too. My case gets stuck in it and I can't get it out. Using Lee case lube inside the neck and on the outside of the case too.............already ruined one die............what am I doing wrong.............new to handloading since the old Lee hand kit dies in the 60's HELP.............going to get some One Shot lube and try it too...........

poncaguy ...

I use the Lee Deluxe .308 dies and One Shot lubricant and have never had one problem. I lay my cases in a row ... side by side across in a cookie sheet and spray One Shot on the case sides and inside the neck and then slightly tilt the cookie sheet so they roll a little and then I spray them again. It doesn't really take a lot of spray but I let them dry a little before sizing.

I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes as reloading is a constant learning process.

"I'm having trouble with the neck sizing or case resizing 308 Lee die, the one that knocks out the primer too. "

Not sure which die you are using, both the FL and neck dies push primers out.

"My case gets stuck in it and I can't get it out. Using Lee case lube inside the neck and on the outside of the case too"

You are not laying on enough lube at the lower part of the case, down towards the base.  THAT'S where cases get stuck, not at the neck or shoulder.  IMHO, One Shot is the least effective lube on the market.  The Lee stuff in a toothpaste tube is as good as it comes.

"............already ruined one die............"

What do you mean, "ruined"?  If you still have a case stuck in the die just get a "stuck case remover" and pull it out.  If you mean you tried to hammer, beat or pry the case out and scored the walls, it's ruined for sure.

Cases can get stuck for other reasons besides lube too.   A dirty die will grab brass.   Internal burrs or scratches in the die body, on the expander button, etc can also be a cause.   I always polish dies when I first get them as I have seen many of them new in the box with these defects, including the more expensive dies.   It's quick and easy to do.   I also do a quick cleaning of the dies after use as part of my reloading regeim - just a cotton swab with a little solvent and they are always ready to go for the next time.

I know some others here don't like it, but the Imperial sizing wax has proven to work very well for me in all of my reloading of commercial and wildcat cases.  It's all I use anymore.   A little goes a very long ways and depending on which case is being loaded, I only have to lightly lube one case in every 3 to 10 or more and never get a stuck, damaged or over-worked case.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Glad to hear it ... makes for a better day. I have been reloading for my .308 today too. I am trying the Barnes 150gr TTSX for the first time. I like Varget in my .308 loads so we'll see how they work out this week. They sure are expensive bullets though. What are you using in your rounds this week?

I forgot to ask you earlier. Do you use your de-burring/chamfer tool on each case before you size them? ???
