I was at Kittery trading post in Maine a couple of weeks ago. I saw a handgun in 45/70. I thought that it was a FA. I looked at there site and didn't see it. the cylinder must have been 3 in. long. Not that I'm intersted in one but it was sure a different looking gun. Any one know who makes it? I'd like to look it up to show the guys at work.

It's probably a BFR revolver. They are from Magnum Research I believe.

An aquaintance of mine had one. It was the "Alaskan Guide" model. I never got a chance to shoot it, poor me! Seems like a little much to me.
The 45LC or the 44Mag are more that I want to shoot in that type of gun!

I have a BFR in 500 MAG. Very accurate 1 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with a red dot.

They also make it in the 450 Marlin, which would be a better choice if you don't want the watered down 45-70 factory loads.

It is a better choice to go with a 45-70, the 450 factory loads are a lot more expensive. And not that much more powerful. Especially out of a handgun. If you reload and want to, you can reload the 45-70 just as hot as a 450. I personally prefer the 45-70.

my point was that if you found yourself without your hand loaded ammo, you could probably find a factory load that would be about the same. Main concern would be on a hunting trip.
