Huntsman Breechplug
« on: October 09, 2008, 01:31:57 PM »
Hello, I need help identifying which breech plug I have in my Huntsman , I ordered a breech plug from Remington/NEF-H & R giving them the serial # NT ****** which was made in 2003 and was told it was a 5/8 breechplug and the sent the one pictured below, which will not fit.
I have a pic below of the one sent  . Mine is larger ...do I have a 5/8 or 7/8 . Thanks for the help.

Buy, or borrow a caliper or micrometer.  Take your plug out.  Check it.  If yours is larger, it is most likely a 7/8.  If you can't do this, take your plug to a machine shop or auto parts store.  They should be able to help you.  It should check out at about 0.875 in. or a bit less if it's a 7/8.  Mine (and it is also a 2003 manufacture) checks at 0.866 in.

tfranklin7,

In 2003 there was only one size, 7/8". The 5/8" plugs, like the one in your picture came out in 2005.

You need a 7/8" plug. I also have a 2003 Huntsman.

Thanks guys for the info and help, it seem you know a lot more about the Huntsman than the guy at Remington.

Called Remington today and was told they no longer had the older 7/8 breech plugs...was told to call Numrich
Gun parts and they had none . Guess its time for the 25 ACP conversion .

As many people here as a have converted their breech plugs to .25 ACP or carrierless 209 you'd think someone here would have their old one laying around.  Have you tried posting in the classifieds?

I just got the 25 ACP conversion plug and it really made a difference in my gun, with 80 grs. of triple 777 the group tightened up considerably . I am real happy with it, I just bought this gun second hand in unfired condition with no breech plug tool at a great price. I got the tool(from Remington) but they had no 7/8 plugs ... I still would like a spare so I'll keep looking. Really appreciate the help from this forum. ;D .
