loose barrel lock up
« on: December 04, 2008, 02:00:40 PM »
i got home from work to a call from a friend to track his sons 3x1 buck in the dark    that done i went home to find that the brown truck had visited home and my .58 huntsman had arrived      i love it     it was set up for #11 caps i changed that to musket caps      now the problem is that the lock up on the barrel to receiver is loose    i do not think it is excessive  i think approx 1/16 in maybe less  with next to no vertical movement    any thoughts on if it needs to be tightened up or do you think this is even an issue?

Loose when the action is open or closed? If it's when open, it doesn't matter, but closed it should be tight. Although it's not as critical on the Huntsman as it is on a cartridge firearm, it's also not good. Close it with some force to see if it just needs some break-in time for the latch and shelf to get used to each other.  ;) If it's very loose at all, I'd contact H&R and have it repaired/replaced unless you want to do it yourself, barrel fitting info is in the FAQs sticky, it may just need a pop can shim on the hinge.

I'd just try a shim on the hinge, won't take much more than likely.  ;)

I shoulda realized it was an older used gun due to the .58 and coming UPS to you!!  :-[ ::) :D
