Should i trade??
« on: May 02, 2009, 03:47:01 PM »
i have a friend who just bought a ruger sp101 357 magnum, after shooting it with the magnums he has decided against it again he said it hurt his hand. i told him to shoot 38's thru it, he said if he shoots 38's it will be in a 38. which brings me to my question, he wants to trade me the ruger for my new charter undercover which i've had about a month and shot about 40 rounds thru it, and my brand new charter police undercover never been fired except at the factory, plus 100 rounds of 38 ammo. the undercover is tight and shoots great, the police undercover is a 6 shot built on the bulldog frame, the sp101 has been fired 100 times ( thats how much ammo he got and shot it all). i asked him why not just trade it back in?, he said the shops are out of anything right now. so what do yall think?, is this a good trade? i don't know what he gave for the ruger, i gave $275 for the undercover, and $325 for the police undercover. i have never owned a sp101, but it looks like its built tough. plus waiting on ammo to shoot it will suck, but is it worth the wait? (my shop says it will be about a month before any handgun ammo is available).

A new sp 101 is under 600 here in Montana, I haven't handled either of the others so can't advise.  That SP 101 ain't even broke in yet.   I would probably do the trade, but I would have him buy the ammo.  Time to get into reloading, don't have to wait if ya have the "fixin's". ;)  Opps, guess I did advise.  DP

Have to agree, trade the guns even up, your two Charter Arms for his Sp101. If he wants the ammo make him pay.

around here there is no ammo, at least not in 38, or 357. he called me this morning, told me he could'nt find any so he would only trade if i thru in another 100 rounds. thats all the ammo i have right now, 2 guns and 200 rounds of ammo for one gun thats alot. will still probably trade, ammo will be here sometime, and i can use my shotgun for home defense till then.

just got back from the gun shop, and i traded but not who i thought i was going too. i told the shop owner the deal i was offered and he had a better one, i traded my undercover, police undercover to the shop. i got in return a brand new sp101 357 magnum, and 2 boxes of speer gold dot 125 grain ammo. seems several people have come in lately wanting small 38's, so the shop owner gave me a good deal. he my friend new about it, i'm gonna have a little talk with him. thanks for all who helped, first ruger i've owned beleive i'll be happy.

Good for you.

I've got a Charter and have no complaints on it, BUT it's not in the same league as an SP101!  I think you'll be happy with it.

yea my undercover was a great gun, shot real good didn't get a chance to shoot the police undercover. i would have kept them, but heard so much about the sp101 just had to try it.

I think it is one of the best all around guns ever made. You're really gonna like it. You might want to get a trigger job, Ruger triggers are usually a bit stiff, but then, maybe not.
