do shops sell just frames?
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:17:56 PM »
id rather buy through a shop rather than just getting it sent there, from a store or auction of the internet.  its a small shop and id like to support it as best i can.  i will call them tomarrow, but i was wondering if i could get an answer tonight, can a shop order a brand new frame from tc? if so, what would a fair price be?  should there be any price difference in a pistol fram and a rifle frame?  thanks for any info!
I've got to many but never enough!!!!

Shops typically have a wholesale distributor that they will purchase a wide variety of firearms from versus buying direct from an individual manufacturer and I suspect that the large manufacturers don't directly sell to every small gunshop of FFL holder - only their authorized distributors and dealers.

The MSRP for the pistol frames should be around $385 (includes grip and forearm) a rifle frame is around $425 (includes stock and forearm) and final cost depends upon what specific model (G2/Encore/Stainless/Blue/Synthetic/Wood) although it is highly likely you will be able to purchase one for less - although I have a gun store in my area that advertises over 3000 guns in stock and most if not all are at or over the MSRP.

I'd guess that buying a new frame and barrel separately would also likely be a more expensive proposition than a complete package depending upon what your ultimate plans are.

Midsouth has retail prices listed that will give you an idea of fair prices for frames w/stocks/grips/forends.

I guarantee you that Cablea's does.
Salesman told me the only restriction he had was that there must be a grip or stock attached.
Like Buckslayer said, normally it is cheaper to buy a gun instead of seperate frame and barrel, but the bargain cave at Cabelas sometimes contains fantastic bargains in barrels.
Or you may find a used barrel and simply don't need the whole enchilada.

And no, I don't work there.

Just a customer who has to stay away from the store in Fort Worth because I do have other things to do with my money, like buy groceries.

I'm sure your local shop can order it that way from their supplier. Give them a call and ask.

Your regular gun dealer that doesn't do "volume" business with T/C will be quite a bit higher than someone who buys large orders from them. I have a local dealer that can usually beat anyones prices. Specially if you figure tax, shipping FFL charge or whatever if you look to buy online or ? My dealer tries to set his prices so you can mix and match with what he has in stock at or close to completed rifles.      lp
