Hidden surcharges

Curious as to what all the chatter is about additional fees involved with the additional barrel program.    I checked on the order form that displays on H&R, and they list a barrel cost (varies upon the barrel) and a $15 fitting fee.  Are there proofing and handling fees that are now being charged?   If I send a M/O as payment, will things be on hold until more $ is sent?   Beginning to sound like some airline fees.  Hopefully I've paid for my last $30 bag of peanuts, blanket or pillow not included.

Proof, handling and shipping, test, and fitting $15.00 each on my invoice, >:( extra $60.00 on top of the barrel charge of $90.00 plus parts and pieces they needed to add. ???  I'll find out more after my conversation with Big Green in the morning.  DP

My recent accessory barrel had a fitting fee, a proofing fee, and shipping fee.  I can't remember exactly, but $15 for each sounds about right.  Unlike dpe.ahoy, I was not charged a separate testing fee.  I suspect Rem is trying to make the accessory barrel program more profitable.  As others have noted, it couldn't have been very profitable before.

That certainly isn't what their online order form indicates.    Guess before i go fishing again, I'd better switch baits.

How profitable will it be if they price everyone out?   With the wait time, it will finally come down to buying a complete gun for a few dollars more.

If they were located in Washington state the extra charges would not be legal.  In this state you must be able to purchase an item for the advertised price with no add ons.  Like buying tires, they must sell you the tires at advertised price and let you carry them out of the store, they cannot require you to use their mounting and balancing services.  Larry

Well I haven't got my rifle back yet but my cc has been charged $117.00, and that's how much the order form total was.
$87  barrel
$15  fitting fee
$15  return shipping

I'll keep watching my account, and waiting for the brown truck. :)

Now that is weird, first they add on $15.00 they shouldn't have, then they discount that by 99%???

What I think it is is .15 for the ammunition. All in all I think their program is worth the trouble and the wait. Yeah it may take a few rounds to re-zero after each barrel change, but isn't it worth it to have a whole separate calibre to turn to?!?!? I am planning on buying at least two more barrels for this frame that I have now before buying another complete gun. As far as the work?, right now I think the Ilion guys are finally getting broke in and will be turning the product out in better time and quality any day now. Hell they took a whole company, moved it a couple hundred miles and was re-trained with only a couple of the original Gardiner guys. Give'em time we will see the H&R quality back real soon.

They discounted most of my sight parts at 99%, but the barrel was listed as with sights.  Even when I pointed this out to the lady, she seemed to think I should be ok with the charges anyway.  She did seem confused as to why one invoice had the extra charges on it, but when she checked the invoice for the one to be shipped yet, it didn't have the extra charges on it.  I still think $228.07 is to damn much for a barrel, set of plastic stocks and a scope rail with hammer extension.  The stocks are still the old style BTW.  For $21.00 more I can still buy a new gun at the store, and not wait 4 months.  My frames were sent off 6-13-08, in the same package,with consectutive repair order numbers, and still waiting for the second one to come home.  DP

All that's listed on the "order" form that is listed on H&R website is the barrel price, plus $30 for fitting and return shipping.   That much is up front.   Looks like any other charges are "buyer beware"    So if you take the time to call customer service to find out about barrel availability or part numbers, such as for a laminated fore end or stock which isn't listed on the accessory page, will you be informed of any additional charges?

Called customer service Monday to check on any barrel price increases before sending one of my handis in for barrels. Average increase was $3.00 per barrel. Said that they haven't had a chance to update the web site yet. Also asked if there was any additional charges such as Proofing/Testing fees, and was told that it was included in the fitting fee of $15.00. No rhyme or reason with them. I guess it depends on who is writing up the bill. My B.C. is waiting for a choke tube for the 410/.45 LColt Accessory Barrel. I don't mind waiting, just hope it doesn't come home mangled (Been there since June 6).

You have to realize the people in CS aren't familiar with H&Rs, they're used to Remington firearms which doesn't have an accessory barrel program, and the software they're using is geared to the Remington operation, so it's not surprising they're charging for services that normally would be charged for Remington firearms. They'll get it together sooner or later......or go under trying!! :-\

Makes me think maybe instead of someday buying a 'hotter' barrel, I might just re-chamber the old 30-30 to the new Marlin rimmed 308!  44 Man
